What is Find it! Logo?

The CUNY Libraries have added a new and powerful linking tool, called Find it!, that helps you get more from your database searches. Find it! is working for you whenever you see the Find it! button or the words "Find it!" as you search a database for articles or other text documents. When databases communicate through Find it! technology, you can click on the Find it! button Find it! Logo and see a menu of choices that take your results beyond a citation.

What will I see on a Find it! Logo menu?

On a typical Find it! menu you may see:

Who can use Find it! Logo?

Find it! Is available to all CUNY students, faculty, and staff, and to scholars working in CUNY libraries.

Can I use Find it! Logo from home?

Yes, if your college or library provides
off-campus access you can access Find it! from home.

Why are there multiple options for full text?

It can happen that the full text of an article is available from more than one source, so Find it! links to everything that is available.

Sometimes I don't go directly to the full text of the article even when I click on "Full text available via". Why?

Find it! will take you as close to the full text of the article as the database will allow. Sometimes Find it! can only take you to the table of contents or, in the case of Lexis-Nexis and InfoTrac, to the introductory page where you must re-enter the citation.

When I click on the full text option the article isn't there. Why?

An article citation may appear in a database before the publisher has actually released the full text. It is also possible there is a typographical error in the volume and issue information Find it! is using to link to the article. Publishers and database providers sometimes change full text availability but the Find it! knowledge base which creates the links might not include the updated information. Check
CUNY+ for print availability, check your college library's list of full text journals, or ask your library's reference staff for assistance.

Why don't I see the Find it! Logo button in the database I'm searching?

If there is no full text link on the Find it! Logo menu does that mean the article is not available electronically?

Not always. You should also check the
full text electronic journals title list on your college library's web page to see if the journal is available. Don't hesitate to ask the reference staff for help in this situation.

Sometimes the CUNY+ search does not find anything. What should I do then?

Search CUNY+ again using the journal title, or search WorldCat to see what libraries outside of CUNY might have the item.

Why are there so many windows when I'm using Find it! Logo?

The Find it! button opens a new window with the menu of options. Selecting one of these options opens a third window. Generally, you will not see more than three or four windows open at one time.

Why are the Find it! Logo menu options different at different CUNY libraries?

Each library has purchased electronic resources to meet the needs of its own faculty and students. The Find it! menu options vary from library to library reflecting the resources available at each library.

Can I use Find it! Logo with a citation manager?

You should check with the reference staff at your library about the citation manager available and advice on using it.

I haven't found any good articles, where can I go for more help?

The reference staff at your library can assist you in locating material on most topics. Online reference assistance is available at some colleges. Please check
your library's web page.

Who came up with Find it! Logo? Are CUNY libraries the only libraries using this technology?

Find it! is the CUNY libraries' name for links generated by SFX linking software. If you use other libraries that have SFX, the linking button you see may say "SFX" or it may say something else. If you want to learn more about how SFX linking software works and what libraries are using it, visit the SFX web site at
